We contacted Afuah for companion care part time for the remainder of the summer for my 94 year-old mom. She set the first meeting and on the scheduled date sent a text 2 hours before and said "an emergent had come up". She rescheduled for the next day and was only a few minutes late as she said she had been delayed at church, but did text. She agreed to the part time afternoon schedule proposed. She was pleasant, polite and engaging for the meeting. She came on Monday as scheduled and both she and mom reported all went well. On Thursday the next scheduled day , just a bit over 2 hours before she was due, she sent a text saying an "emergency had come up and she had to move to Baltimore...I won't be able to help with your mom beginning today ." Unbelievable! She didn’t follow up with a phone call or another text to ensure that we were able to get coverage for my mom and get her shift covered. For all she knew, we might not have seen the text in a timely fashion, leaving a woman recently discharged from the hospital to make due until someone arrived for the next shift. Her lack of professionalism, late notice, and careless disregard to follow through, leaving us scrambling to find care of a 94 year-old is irresponsible, derelict, immature, and unacceptable.
