I enjoy teaching/tutoring, in California, Illinois, Canada, Korea, or China. Qualifications include California K12 Credentials for English, Mathematics, Social Sciences and Computer Science; NCLB "Highly Qualified" ratings for English, ESL, History, Spanish, and my degree fields; and TEFL/TESOL certificates. I teach every subject as part of, not apart from, students' lives. I remove obstacles. For one pre-algebra student, it meant teaching first-grade arithmetic in parallel. For ESL students, it means explaining English inconsistent pronunciation groups, enabling them to match words in print to words heard anywhere. I relate well to students of all ages as well as to working professionals. My colleagues, students, and parents keep in touch and visit, even years later. My main avocations are writing (novels, satire, poetry, and children's fables); language study, both in college settings and when living abroad; small carpentry projects; and swimming a half-mile daily, April - October.
