Extremely unprofessional! The hours that I was hiring for were very clear. There was no mention at the interview of any potential conflicts upcoming. I asked Merry specifically if she was able to cover all of the hours. She stated that she could. So as to not have all off my eggs in one basket, I hired a second caregiver to cover the weekday hours. Thank goodness I did because Merry subsequently decided that Tuesday and Thursday would be too much with her schedule. Merry started on a Saturday and was also scheduled for the following day 8a-8p. That Saturday she advised that she would only be available to work on Sunday from 8a-11a due to a prior commitment. Several days earlier at the interview there were no potential conflicts mentioned. Merry subsequently advised that she would have this prior commitment every Sunday. She should never have taken the job knowing this information and the hours that I was hiring for. The one Saturday that Merry did work, my husband and I went out for a few hours to take a break. During that time, I received several phone calls and email messages asking questions, simple things like what should I do? This is not indicative of a caregiver that is knowledgeable of dementia or experienced with the elderly in general. After Merry was compensated for the weekend, she sent a text message advising that she would no longer be working on the weekends due to her conflicting schedule. No notice given.
