Hi! I'm looking for a part time job as a senior companion. My degrees are in Early Childood and Psychology but I have many years of experience caring for seniors. I have cared for a 90-year-old woman with Alzheimer's for two years and found it very rewarding. I then cared for my mother at home for 5 years when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. The majority of my work history is with caring for children ages 3 months to 10 years old. I owned a private preschool for 16 years (until 2014) and have been a nanny for the past 10 years. I think caring for young children and seniors require some of the same traits and skills to be successful. Things such as patience, empathy, flexibility and compassion and sometimes humor. My schedule beginning in September will leave me with Wednesdays and some Thursdays open. Unfortunately, I do not have references relating to caring for seniors. I certainly have a list of excellent references from my years working with kids.
