About Whitney

Teaching is my passion. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2009 with my B. A. in Psychology and my Masters in Education. For the past 12 years I've taught 2nd and 3rd grade at an amazing charter school in South Los Angeles. I've also worked as a full-time tutor in Sylvan Learning Centers, and privately for students on the Westside. I'm fully trained in Orton Gillingham and employ Science of Reading practices. I specialize in teaching reading, vocabulary, and fluency skills. I love teaching students how to become more responsible for their own learning and assisting them in staying organized and practicing effective study skills. I firmly believe that every student has the potential to excel; it's merely a matter of discovering what learning methods work best for them and presenting material in a new and unique way. If your student is struggling in a particular subject or simply wants a boost to be ahead of the curve I am most definitely up to the challenge!
