Full or Part Time Caregiver

I absolutely love children. I have a bunch of younger family members, and I've been babysitting since age 13. I was a summer camp counselor for 3 summers and worked with kids ages 6 to 10. I also worked in a Day Care center for a year. For the first couple of months I worked in the infant and toddler building as an assistant teacher. Here I learned how important it was for children of such a young age to have quality caregivers. It's vital to provide them with structure and stability in order for them to focus and function with their peers. After a few months, enrollment for the pre-school age group picked up rapidly, so I was transferred to that building. This was a whole different ball game. The children were a little older, and not as dependent on their caregivers. I was faced with the challenge of letting the children assert their independence, while still having to guide them through things. I adjusted to this age difference pretty quickly, and found that the older children a lot like the younger ones needed structure. You could tell the kids who had schedules at home apart from those who didn't. In addition to my babysitting and child care worker experience, I am currently taking online classes for early childhood education. I have a true passion for working with children, and I am hoping to make a career in this field. As a caregiver, my primary concern is the child's safety. Aside from that, I basically just want to make sure the child/children are learning necessary things according to their age, eating properly, and enjoying themselves. While watching children, I don't believe in being bored. I plan age appropriate activities that stimulate brain development, art projects, music related activities, and more. I also think it's important for caregivers and parents to have similar goals for the children. Again, structure and stability are key components in raising children. As a caregiver, I always make sure that I am on the same page as the parents. I believe that together, we can help these children blossom into the amazing beings that they are.
